Basket Buddies Event

The Middle Schoolers had a great event on Thursday. Twelve student volunteers, anonymously made lunch baskets to be bid on my their fellow classmates. The winning bid got to share the lunch with the lunch maker. The basket buddies idea came from an experience read about by some middle school students in their Language Arts class. The goal of the event was to find new and fun ways for kids get to know someone they would not ordinarily spent time with. Lunch Baskets contained things ranging from steak and potatoes to deli sandwiches with soda pop or sparkling cider and fresh homemade cookies to fruit leather.
The students seemed to be reluctant to participate but... after the assembly and lunch were over, students were talking about next time!!!
The event was planned by the Middle School Student Council under the direction of Mrs. Sant.

What's happening in Science

Mr. Mitchell's science class took a different approach for learning "Plate Tectonics". Students were given a check list of different learning opportunities and students were given the ability to choose how they learned the information. The students had 10 school days or 2.5 weeks to complete the chapter and take the test. Mr. Mitchell felt students did an outstanding job of self monitoring and worked well for the entire assignment.
The standards covered in this unit were:
8-9.ES.1.1.2 Apply the concepts of order and organization to a given system.
8-9.ES.1.2.2 Develop models to explain concepts or systems.
8-9.ES.1.6.4 Formulate scientific explanations and models using logic and evidence.
8-9.ES.4.2.1 Explain the internal energy sources of the earth

Examples of student work!!!

Shakespeare Coming to Shoshone

Tuesday March 13th, the Shakespeare festival will present MacBeth to the secondary students (6th-12th graders). The assembly will be an outstanding opportunity for students to experience Shakespeare. Come join us if you can! Performance at 1:00 pm!

Did you get a letter for your Middle School student?

In your mailbox last week, you should have received a letter with your students Idaho Standards Achievement Test (ISAT) data.

Classroom teachers and the ISAT prep teams developed goals for each student in all subject areas. Check out how your child has done the last two years and where we expect them to be this year! Goals are ambitious and achievable. Ask your child about the goals and how they are going to achieve them!

Starting April 9th, all Middle School students will begin taking the ISAT in the areas of Reading, Language Usage and Math.
